Wow, is this going to be a virtual BoF reunion?  Will both BoFs be on here?  If so, should we do introductions?  Name tags? Ice breakers?  =)

Hello James and other BoFers!

Its nice of James to start! He has always shown the spirit of initiation! How many others of us are here at this moment? It would be a good chance to meet-and-greet virtually and move on to serious discussion when required.

By the way, I read Rob's book. I like it. If you have read (or read about) 'future shock', you would see that many ideas in that book are materializing. And though Generation Blend is nowhere near that book, it does a good job in analyzing those changes. My 2 cents. Your take?

This is a great place to start -- I'm Mike Maturo, BotF '05, working in New York doing exactly what Rob (Salkowitz) talks about: managing the blend between IT and business, and bringing the concepts of our generation into the fold.  I'm also the youngest Town Councilman in Rockland County, if not New York State, having been elected last November at 23.  I'm now trying to marshal people and resources to bring about positive, productive involvement at the local level, just as Obama is attempting to do at the national level (for the record, I supported Hillary for the nomination).  None of this is easy -- there are events, meetings, and just going out with my girlfriend or friends every night -- but it's (generally) all enjoyable and exciting.

 

It's interesting to see what this virtual community will grown into, if at all. I wonder where we all are located? Would a real-world reunion for the two Boards be possible?

For those who don't know me, I'm Varun from BoF 2005, currently working in London. Job description in simple terms - "I advise on deals involving buying or selling of technology companies"

It is indeed a very exciting time out there as some of the key generation-driven trends we discussed in Budapest and that are captured in the book are now affecting what sort of value is attributed to various technologies (e.g. Facebook being worth $15bn)

On the flip side, rising energy and food costs does not augur well for the developing world where poverty reduction and bridging of both the economic and technological gap is a top priority to ensure no one is left behind too far to catch up!

so varun, you're going to tell us where to invest, yes?

sofya!  congrats on the marriage.  a real-world reunion should happen!  it's been four years since the first BotF and three since ours...

Its carnage out there, keep your money under your bed and keep your credit card away from your girl !!
